A Postcard for Trinity Sunday 06/12/22
Birds are mysterious.
Birds are rather fascinating. Scientist theorize that birds are the closest living creature to dinosaurs. So some mornings when I watch the goings on at my bird feeder, I image little grumpy dinosaurs pushing each other out of the way to get to the seed.
But what really leaves me baffled is how birds migrate. Tiny birds will fly thousands of mile to return to the same place again and again. Scientist believe that the birds navigate using the sun, moon, stars, and earth’s magnetic field, but they can’t really explain how it works. We just know that it does work.
So every summer I hang my hummingbird feeders up and wait. The first time I hear the buzz of tiny wings, I am truly excited and happy. Every summer when the geese come back to Heflin to have their babies, I risk venturing a bit too close to snap a photo of the happy family.
There is joy in mystery, if we just slow down and let ourselves feel it.
