A sermon for the Fifth Sunday of Easter offered at Christ Episcopal Church in Albertville, AL. In the reading from Acts, Peter is left accounting for what happens when the love of God lets loose the Holy Spirit on the world. The result is that our job is not to decide who God gives the Holy Spirit, but instead to do our best to keep up.
In thinking about the joyful wildness of the Holy Spirit in Acts, and the Apostles’ attempt to keep up, I couldn’t help but think of my sweet dog Frankie. Frankie loved to run, and there were certainly a few times that I found myself having to run after her.
