Saturday, February 16, I went to “A Conversation with Dr. Angela Davis” at Boutwell Auditorium. This community event open to all was the result of a controversy, which you can read about here. It was a fantastic event, and you can read more about it here and watch a recording here.
So it was with this event and Dr. Davis’ stories in mind that I came to this Sunday’s Gospel. The Gospel on the Plain is Luke’s presentation of the Beatitudes (Lk. 6:17-26). As I have previously written, this is my favorite version of these familiar blessings because it includes the woes.
So, here is a sermon offered on the readings for the Sixth Sunday after the Epiphany at our noonday Eucharist at Samford University. (It’s a big chapel, so at times you might need to turn up the volume, but overall I think it is hearable.)
